Former Health Minister and former UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake announced the formation of a new political party today.
The party is named the United Citizens' Front and its symbol is the vase. The party is intended to be a platform for disgruntled UNP members and other like-minded individuals, Attanayake said.
Speaking at a press briefing today, Attanayake said that the party is based on liberal democratic principles. It supports market economy but does not disregard welfare as well, he added. Therefore, the party accepts a mixed economic policy, Attanayake also said.
