Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe lashed out at a recent statement by former Kurunegala UPFA MP Salinda Dissanayake, asking him to run around the Sooriyawewa Stadium carrying the mace.
Dissanayake had recently said that he would run around with the mace if Mahinda Rajapaksa is not made Prime Minister following the election victory of the UPFA.
Speaking at a public rally in Millaniya in Bandaragama last evening, Wickremesinghe said that parliamentarians should learn to respect the symbol of parliamentary tradition. If a UNP candidate said something similar, he would have erased that person’s name from the list, Wickremesinghe also said.
Wickremesinghe pointed out that this was the difference between the UNP led alliance and the supporters of the ‘Rajapaksa regime’. The United National Front for Good Governance formed the alliance to defeat the counter-revolution of the Rajapaksa regime, Wickremesinghe also said.
