United National Party General Secretary Kabir Hashim slammed his ‘political opponents’ for resorting to racism in a bid to win elections at the upcoming general election.
He made this observation sharing a picture of some posters on his Facebook page. The posters read “Irrespective of party or colour, our vote is for a Sinhalese Buddhist.” The name of the organization which pasted the posters could not be seen due several children in front of them.
“This is a society we are trying to move away from. Sri Lanka has suffered for too long due to the racism of a few. We as a country embrace the rich cultural mix that makes up the people of Sri Lanka,” Hashim said in response to the poster.
“This sort of behavior has no place in politics nor in society,” Hashim further said.
Kabir Hashim is contesting the upcoming election from Kegalle District under the UNP ticket.
