President Maithripala Sirisena will visit Maldives on Sunday to attend the 50th anniversary of the country's independence.
Sirisena will also meet the President of Maldives Abdulla Yameen and other officials during his trip.
Sirisena's invitation came at a time when Pakistan's Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif canceled his official visit to the Maldives due to severe flooding in Pakistan's Chitral district, displacing thousands of families.
Sharif had previously confirmed his arrival but had sent a letter canceling the visit to the Maldives president's office last week.
