It is now revealed that the white-coloured van recently arrested with three suspects in Mirihana was came with the intention of harming president Maithripala Sirisena, Cabinet Minister of Lands M.K.D.S Gunawardena on Saturday (25) told.

Addressing a public rally in Dambulla he further said that investigations have begun on two UPFA parliamentarians to find out whether they have a connection with the incident.

Three army personnel in civilian clothing were arrested by Mirihana Police on July 20 while traveling in a white colored van with fake number plates. A firearm that was in the possession of the suspects was also seized, police told.

Preliminary investigations had revealed that the soldiers were attached to the personal security detail of a Major General.
