'Government Should Have Acted Against Abusive Comments On National Flag': BBS

Bodu Bala Sena General Secretary Galagodaatte Gnanasara Thera said that the government should have acted swiftly on the recent remarks by Watareka Vijitha Thera on Sri Lanka’s National Flag.

Speaking to Asian Mirror, Gnanasara Thera said that the BBS will be filing a complaint against the incident at the police headquarters, following repeated inquiries on the matter by various people.

Taking part in the launch of the Nava Sama Samaja Party election manifesto recently, Watareka Vijitha Thera called for the burning of the national flag.

Gnanasara Thera said that the police was not taking any action because no complaint had been filed on the matter. Commenting further on the issue, Gnanasara Thera said that if this happened in another country, the government and the police would take the initiative to launch legal action.

He also said that if there was an issue with the flag, a meaningful dialogue should be initiated on the matter. However, no one has the right to abuse the national flag, he also said.
