Mass Media and Information Minister Gayantha Karunathilaka stated that it was sad to see the Sri Lanka Freedom Party being run by Wimal Weerawansa, while the senior SLFP stalwarts remain helpless to intervene.

 

Speaking at a press conference at the Sirikotha UNP headquarters, Karunathilaka pointed out that the SLFP is a party with a long history. However, Weerawansa, who is the leader of the National Freedom Front, seems to be taking decisions on behalf of the SLFP, he added.

 

The SLFP is the largest party in the United People’s Freedom Alliance and the NFF is also a constituent party. Weerawansa was one of the key leaders of the “Bring Back Mahinda” demanding former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s return to politics.

 

Rajapaksa is the Chairman of the UPFA Elections Committee.
