A group of lawyers affiliated to former president Mahinda Rajapaksa on yesterday (27) made a complaint to Chief Justice K. Sripavan seeking a contempt of court action against Deputy Minister Ranjan Ramanayake, for allegedly making an insulting attack on the reputation of the judiciary and lawyers at a press conference held in Sirikotha (UNP head office) on July 8 this year.
A group of lawyers led by Sri Jayawardenapura Kotte Deputy Mayor Madura Vithanage lodged this complaint and requested the Chief Justice that notice be issued on Ramanayake for alleged contempt of court charges.
“The contents simply say that we lawyers and the members of the judiciary are in a major racket in which we share our fees with the members of the judiciary and that he has witnessed many of such instances. This attack on the legal fraternity cannot be worse. It is infinitely worse than what the once jailed Minister had said,” the lawyers complained.
