Balapitiya UNP Chief Organiser Kamal Jayantha de Soysa announced his decision to resign from his responsibilities in the party yesterday, in protest over the party's decision to welcome former Balapitiya Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Dayaratne de Silva.

Speaking to media yesterday, he said that Dayaratne de Silva was responsible for many misdeeds in the area. De Silva used the name of former MP Sajin de Vass Gunawardena for his advantage, de Soysa said.

Meanwhile, de Soysa also said that he was opposed to the appointment of Asoka Dhanawansa to the post of Acting Organiser of the UNP in Balapitiya.

He added that there is no 'good governance' in UNP politics in Balapitiya.
