Democratic Party Batticaloa District Chief Organiser and former Mayor of Batticaloa Sivageetha Prabhakaran joined the United People's Freedom Alliance along with several Batticaloa Municipal Council members.

She met with former Deputy Minister M. L. A. M. Hisbullah and expressed her support to him yesterday.

Hisbullah leads the UPFA Batticaloa District list in the forthcoming general election.

Prabhakaran said that she will be giving her fullest support for the victory of the UPFA in Batticaloa District.

Her defection is a significant blow for the Democratic Party, which is led by Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka.
