Public Money Used For Election Campaigns

Government Institutions have erected over 4,500 illegal hoardings aimed at the upcoming election, the Campaign for Free & Fair Election (CaFFE) said.

CaFFE Executive Director Keerthi Thennakoon stated in a release that most cut-outs featuring candidates are currently being maintained by various government institutions.

The offending institutions include the National Housing Authority, National Water Supply and Drainage Board, Road Development Authority and various other local government institutions.

“Such erected cut-outs and hoardings are completely illegal” Tennakoon said, and added that the public should report such hoardings with photographic proof to the Elections Commissioner, the Department of Elections or CaFFE.
