It is now revealed that the gun fire attack on supporters of Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake might be related to a longstanding clash between two underworld factions in the area.
Two wanted underworld criminals known as ‘Army Sampath’ and ‘Sanka’, were the main targets of the attack, the police told local news paper.
The attack carried out by a criminal called Pathum and three other individuals in a black colored Hybrid car with T-56 rifles. Both 'Army Sampath' and "Sanka' returned to the country recently.
Shots fired at a group of supporters of UNP candidate Ravi Karunanayake who were engaging in election campaigning at Bloemendhal road, Colombo yesterday (31).
Twelve persons were hospitalized and one woman died due to injuries.
