Former Deputy Minister Lakshman Wasantha Perera was arrested by Matale Police early this morning.
A complaint has been filed against him alleging that he assaulted a UNP supporter during a rally in Matale recently. Perera surrendered to police this morning. He will be produced before the Magistrate shortly.
Four of his supporters were recently arrested over the incident and remanded till August 12. An identification parade will be held on that day, Police Media Spokesperson ASP Ruwan Gunasekara told Asian Mirror.
The rally took place recently with the participation of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
