The Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi managed to win the election in Kayts Electorate, the stronghold of the EPDP led by Douglas Devananda.
The ITAK polled 7,688 votes (58.56%) while the EPDP received only 3924 votes (29.89%).
In 2010, the ITAK came second with 1,671 votes while the UPFA won Kayts with 6,441 votes (71.99%). The EPDP contested under the UPFA ticket in 2010.
Both UNP and the UPFA received under 500 votes in Kayts.
