Govt. To Restructure Major Anti-corruption Bodies To Fast track Investigations

December 14, 2015

The government will destruction all anti-corruption bodies in the countries in a comprehensive manner, with the aim of expediting action against those who were involved in large scale scams over the past 10 years, a top government spokesman told Asian Mirror.

Under the restructuring process, major anti-corruption bodies will be allowed to work together and they will also be able to seek assistance from international parties in an effective manner, the spokesman said.

"Current legislations will also be amended to make way for a comprehensive restructuring process," he further added.

"At this point, the biggest challenge crippling anti-corruption investigations is the lack of expertise on the part of local officials. The restructuring process should be done with the aim of addressing this problem," he said.

He said it was essential to give specialised foreign training to Sri Lankan officers handling anti-corruption investigations.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe presented a special Cabinet paper in this regard at the last Cabinet meeting, chaired by President Maithripala Sirisena.
