"No Move To Form Our Sri Lanka Freedom Front: But We Will Contest Separately" - Vasu

December 27, 2015

UPFA MP and Democratic Left Front MP Vasudewa Nanayakkara yesterday denied claims that there was a move to form a new political coalition under the name "Our Sri Lanka Freedom D=Front."

However, the MP made it clear that his group, the UPFA dissidents who identify themselves as the 'joint opposition', will contest the Local Government election as a separate group.

"But, the mechanism of that process is still under discussion. There is no move to form a front called 'Our Sri Lanka Freedom Front'. I am not aware of any such discussion," Nanayakkara said on Sunday.

"If there is such a move, I must know asI am a party leader representing the joint opposition," the Parliamentarian said.

He said there was no hurry to jump into a decision as the government had taken measures to postpone the Local Government election. "We will take our own time. We don't have to panic," the Leftist politician added.

Sources from the pro-Rajapaksa camp told Asian Mirror that nearly 35 MPs of the UPFA were ready to align themselves with a separate coalition under the leadership of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
