IGP Called Before Police Commission

Inspector General of Police N. K. Illangakoon was called before the National Police Commission (NPC) today, to discuss concerning the Embilipitiya incident.   

Secretary to the police commission, Ariyadasa Cooray stated that discussions will be held to decide the next step regarding the matter.

In addition, 21 police officers in who were transferred from Embilipitiya following the incident was summoned to the Sri Lanka Human rights Commission today  to obtain statements on the death of a youth in Embilipitiya.

The incident in question relates to the conflict between a group of civilians and police at a party in Embilipitiya on 4th January. The conflict led to the death of 29 year old Sumith Prasanna Jayewardena, who fell from the top floor of the building where the party was being held.
