No In-depth Discussion With Modi On Constitutional Matters- GL

President Mahinda Rajapaksa informed Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi that devolution of police powers was not possible, External Affairs Minister G.L. Peiris said today. 

Responding to a question in Parliament, the External Affairs Minister said the Sri Lankan President did not have in-depth discussions on constitutional matters with Narendra Modi at their first bilateral meeting which took place in New Delhi a day after the Indian Prime Minister's swearing in ceremony. 
 
However, multiple media reports from India said the Indian Prime Minister, at the meeting, emphasized the need of full implementation of the 13thh Amendment to the Sri Lankan constitution. 
 
However, the statement issued from the Sri Lankan President's Media Unit in the bilateral discussion kept mum on the indian Prime Minister's reference to the 13th amendment. On the contrary, Indian Foreign Secretary Sujatha Singh confirmed that full implementation of the 13th Amendment was one of the main topics discussed at the New Delhi meeting between the two leaders. 
 
The Sri Lankan External Affairs Minister, who spoke in Parliament today. did not directly respond to the statement by the Indian Foreign Secretary.
