JHU Affiliated Buddhist Organization Lashes Out At Government For Overlooking Real Threats To Buddhism

Hela Bodu Saviya, attached to Jathika Hela Urumaya, has sent a letter to President Maithripala Sirisena, severely criticizing the Theravada Bhikkhu Dialogue Act presented to Parliament recently.

Through its letter, the Hela Bodu Saviya stated that government concentrates on relevantly unimportant issues, rather than concentrating on real issues of Buddhists such as proselytizing, Buddhists monks leaving the order, and closure of temples in rural areas.

The letter also mentioned that Theravada Bhikkhu Dialogue was invalid and contains weaknesses. It could lead to unnecessary clashes between the Nikayas, the Hela Bodu Saviya further maintained.

Furthermore, the Hela Bodu Saviya stressed that the government should table a bill against unethical conversion.

The JHU unsuccessfully made an attempt to get a similar bill passed in 2005.
