State Finance Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena said that the investigation procedure of the police Financial Crimes Investigations Division needs to be clarified.
Speaking at a press conference today, Abeywardena said that the government has already established institutions to investigate financial fraud through Parliamentary legislation.
President Maithripala Sirisena has empowered the Presidential Commission of Inquiry and the 19th Amendment created the independent commissions, the Minister pointed out. He added that the procedure in these institutions were clear to the public.
While the fast-track mechanisms could deliver results, the public should also be communicated the message that the correct procedure is being followed, the Minister said.
His comments come a day after several SLFP Deputy Ministers hit out at the FCID following their visit to see Yoshitha Rajapaksa, who is in remand prison.
