The Attorney General yesterday informed Court of Appeal that the Terrorist Investigations Division (TID) has commenced an investigation against Kumaran Pathmanathan alias KP under three Acts, including the Prevention of Terrorism Act, the Penal Code and the Convention on the Suppression of Terrorist Financing Act of 2005 over his alleged involvement with the LTTE.
The AG's Department has received a report from TID on last Friday regarding the progress of the investigation against KP.
Accordingly, the TID has already recorded statements from several persons over KP's alleged terrorist involvement.
These facts were revealed when the writ petition filed by JVP MP Vijitha Herath requesting an order to arrest KP was heard before the Appeals Court.
KP is said to be the former leader of the LTTE International Wing and reported to have been appointed the leader of the outfit following the death of its leader Velupillai Prabhakaran in 2009.
The petition includes 193 serious allegations against KP including arms procurement and money laundering charges.
