A number of Sri Lanka Freedom Party local councilors in the Minuwangoda Urban Council, Minuwangoda Pradeshiya Sabha, Dompe Pradeshiya Sabha and Gampaha Pradeshiya Sabha opposed the move to appoint Ruwan Ranatunga as the Minuwangoda Electorate SLFP Chief Organizer, removing his brother Prasanna Ranatunga.

President Maithripala Sirisena appointed Ruwan Ranatunga to his brother's position in the SLFP yesterday.

Speaking at a press conference today the former Minuwangoda Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Padmakumara Arangalla categorically refused to work with Ruwan Ranatunga. Prasanna Ranatunga is the popular SLFP figure in Minuwangoda, he insisted.

Meanwhile, the former Gampaha Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman said that Ruwan Ranatunga could not even win a cooperative society election, let alone a Pradeshiya Sabha or Parliamentary Election. This move is an attempt to damage the SLFP, he added.
