SLFP Central Committee Meeting Called Amidst Party Dispute

The Sri Lanka Party Central Committee is expected to meet this evening amidst a growing party dispute between the supporters of President Maithripala Sirisena and former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, which still seems to be a long way from being resolved.

The Central Committee is expected to discuss on the disciplinary steps to be taken against several local councilors who have openly defied the party leadership. The Central Committee recently came to a decision to take disciplinary action against nine councilors. However, most of these councilors once again openly challenged the party leadership.

President Maithripla Sirisena appointed 26 new organizers for the party recently, removing some of the most vocal supporters of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa. Several local councilors openly opposed this decision yesterday at a press conference.
