Sri Lanka Army launched a programme to plough 245 acres of paddy lands in Kosgama area on a request made by the farmers on yesterday.
According to the army sources, about 50 troops with more than 10 tractors and machinery were involved in the programme carried out yesterday under the directions of the Commander of the Army. The programme is to be carried out under 3 phases in order to facilitate the farmers to cultivate their paddy land during this 'Maha' season.
Troops of the SFHQ - West would continue this welfare programme in the neighboring areas, allowing the villagers to re-start their agricultural activities.
Commander SFHQ - West, Divisional Secretary for Seethawaka, state officials, Army officers and farmers were present at the occasion.
