Thilini Amalka, the girl from Wariyapola who slapped Robert Dansalage Chandra Kumara alias Selva at the Wariyapola bus station is to file a fundamental rights petition on the grounds that she did not receive justice from law enforcement system in Sri Lanka.
The girl was arrested by police and held in police custody on August 27. Thilini Amalka was released on bail in the afternoon. She was arrested after the man who was slapped by her complained of hearing problems nearly a week after the incident.
Lakshan Dias, a lawyer affiliated with ‘Rights Now’ non-governmental organization, is appearing on behalf of the girl. The lawyer said she would file her FR petition within the next two weeks.
Selva, who was slapped by Thilini Amalka for passing innuendos at her, is a resident of Wariyapola and a father of two. Speaking to media following the incident he said he did not say anything offensive to the girl and was just highlighting the fact that her dress was inappropriate.
However, the girl said the man was passing remarks over the “holes” on her dress and his comments were offensive. She also said her reputation was damage – to a great extent – as a result of what was published on social media with regard to the incident.
