Former Inspector General of Police Victor Perera Passes Away at 75

The former Inspector General of Police (IGP), Victor Perera, has passed away at the age of 75. The distinguished law enforcement figure breathed his last this afternoon, while under treatment at the Colombo National Hospital, as confirmed by sources close to his family.

Victor Perera, who held the position of the 30th Inspector General of Police, assumed this high-ranking role on October 12, 2006. His dedicated service to the nation spanned his tenure as IGP until his retirement on June 3, 2008.

Notably, Victor Perera's contributions extended beyond the police force. He served as the first Governor of the Northern Province, marking a unique distinction as the first former police chief to be appointed to the role of a Provincial Governor. His diverse roles in law enforcement and governance made him a respected figure in the public service.
