The United National Party (UNP) has convened its Special General Convention at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium in Colombo, with President Ranil Wickramasinghe presiding over the event. This year's convention carries the theme of "Creating a Smart Country by 2048," and is geared towards reorganizing the party to better align with the challenges and opportunities of the modern world.

The convention has drawn a significant number of UNP leaders and members, including Deputy Leader Ruwan Wijayawardena, President Vajira Abeywardena, and General Secretary Palitha Range Bandara, who have all actively participated in the proceedings.

The theme of "Creating a Smart Country by 2048" underscores the UNP's commitment to modernizing Sri Lanka and positioning the nation as a technologically advanced and globally competitive entity within the next two and a half decades. In his opening remarks, President Ranil Wickramasinghe emphasized the importance of adapting to the fast-paced changes in the world to ensure the country's prosperity.
