People Of Uva Will Decide On The Fate Of Harin And Shasheendra 'Within Hours'

The people of Uva will start voting to elect a new Provincial Council and with it a new Chief Minister in another few hours. Former Chief Minister and UPFA Chief Minister Candidate Shasheendra Rajapaksa and UNP Chief Minister Candidate Harin Fernando are the two main contenders vying for the top post for duration of another 5 years.

Polling stations for the Uva Provincial Council election will open at 7am tomorrow (20) and will be closed at 4pm. The number of registered voters is 942,730. Out of these, 609,966 are from Badulla District and 332,764 are from Moneragala.

There will be 516 polling stations in Badulla District and 316 stations in Moneragala District.

The total number of contestants is 617, out of which 323 contest from Moneragala and 294 from Badulla. The Provincial Council will have 14 members from Moneragala and 18 from Badulla.

The ballot boxes are currently being transported to the relevant polling stations in both districts.
