December 04, 2023

Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa has raised concerns in Parliament about the alleged issuance of red notices leading to the disconnection of electricity for numerous households across the country. Premadasa highlighted the attempted power cut at the Ahayaramaya Temple in Narahenpita, led by Chief Incumbent Muruththettuwe Ananda Thera, who is notably associated with former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.

During his parliamentary address, Premadasa pointed out the surge in hydropower generation and substantial profits reported by the Electricity Board. However, he questioned the fairness of issuing red bills to around 5 million people in the country, stating that there are indications of electricity disconnection for approximately 500,000 individuals.

The Opposition Leader urged authorities to review and address the alleged widespread electricity cut-offs, emphasizing the need for a fair and transparent process in dealing with electricity-related matters.
