A red alert has been issued for 12 districts due to heavy rain as the South-West monsoon conditions strengthen across the island.
Very heavy showers exceeding 150 mm are expected in parts of the Western and North-western provinces.

The Sabaragamuwa province, along with the districts of Galle, Matara, Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, and Mannar, are likely to experience heavy showers over 100 mm.
The prevailing showery and windy conditions are anticipated to continue further.
