Heavy Showers and Strong Winds Expected Across the Island

 

The Meteorology Department has forecasted that the prevailing showery and windy conditions due to the Southwest monsoon will continue in various parts of the island. Showers or thundershowers are expected intermittently in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-western, Southern, and Northern provinces.

Particularly heavy rainfall, around 150mm, is anticipated in Sabaragamuwa province and Nuwara-Eliya districts.

Heavy showers exceeding 100mm are likely in Western and North-western provinces, as well as in Kandy, Mannar, Galle, and Matara districts. Elsewhere on the island, showers or thundershowers are also expected at several locations.

Strong winds ranging from 50-60 kmph are forecasted for the Western slopes of the central hills, and in Northern, North-central, Western, Southern, North-western provinces, and Trincomalee district. Fairly strong winds, around 30-40 kmph, are expected elsewhere across the island.
