The Sri Lankan government has decided to recall 16 political appointees serving as ambassadors and high commissioners, effective immediately, according to a Foreign Ministry source.
While the specific names of the officials were not disclosed, letters notifying them of their recall have already been sent. Upon their return by December 1, the government will review their performances and consider potential reappointments.
This move affects appointees in key capitals including London, Washington, DC, Jakarta, and Abu Dhabi, many of whom were appointed under former presidents Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Ranil Wickremesinghe.
The Foreign Service also includes numerous political appointees in junior positions, some related to politicians, amidst an unfilled cadre base.
