Sri Lankan Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya addressed the ongoing challenges her government faces due to the arbitrary decisions made by previous ministers. Speaking at a public meeting in Kotte, she underscored the urgent need for a systematic, policy-driven approach to governance.
She said, "Every day, we are dealing with the distortions caused by the arbitrary decisions of individual ministers." She acknowledged the necessity of increasing public sector salaries but insisted it must be done within a coherent budget framework to prevent further crises.
Criticizing the previous lack of coordination among ministries, she described how sectors operated like "independent kingdoms," lacking a unified vision. "Education was one kingdom, health was another," she remarked, stressing the need for collaboration.
Highlighting improvements in current administrative practices, Amarasuriya noted that government officials now communicate more effectively, leading to cohesive decision-making. She called for the election of policy-respecting individuals to leadership positions, emphasizing the importance of integrity in governance.
"We request that policy-making positions be filled with those who respect policies, legal positions with those who respect the law, and financial management positions with those who are not corrupt," she asserted, encouraging citizens to exercise their voting power responsibly.
