Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya said that Members of Parliament (MPs) will no longer be permitted to appoint family members to their personal staff. This decision, revealed during a rally organized by the National Peoples Power (NPP) Women’s wing, is part of broader reforms aimed at reducing corruption and prioritizing national development.
Prime Minister Amarasuriya said that the new government will limit facilities for MPs, including official residences, as part of its commitment to transparency and accountability. “Perhaps the most difficult thing to bear will be the end of corruption. Our focus will be on development projects for the country’s future, rather than the well-being of ministers and MPs,” she said.
