The Colombo Fort Magistrate today (11) issued notices to the Director Board of the Krrish Group concerning serious safety risks posed by the abandoned Krrish Square Tower in Colombo.
The action follows a report from the Colombo Fort Police detailing the dangers associated with the partially constructed and neglected building. Recently, debris from the site fell and damaged a vehicle, heightening public safety concerns. Evidence related to the case is scheduled to be heard the day after tomorrow (13).
Police reported two separate incidents on 6 October and 8 November, in which iron debris fell from the structure onto vehicles during office hours, endangering numerous pedestrians and commuters. Police told the magistrate that the current condition of the building presents a severe hazard to public safety.
Additional concerns include abandoned machinery that could be dislodged by strong winds and stagnant water within the construction site, providing a breeding ground for mosquitoes. Nearby hotels have lodged complaints, warning of a potential dengue threat from the waterlogged underground sections.
While the former Ministry of Urban Development had proposed leasing the project to an investor to complete the construction, no progress has been made to date.
