A heated situation unfolded outside Ravi Karunanayake’s residence this morning as supporters of Azath Salley’s National Unity Front (NUF) staged a protest against the National Democratic Front’s (NDF) controversial National List nomination.
The protest was sparked by the nomination of Karunanayake for one of the two National List MP seats secured by the NDF in the General Election. Supporters of Karunanayake also gathered at the scene, leading to heightened tensions.
Police protection has since been deployed to the residence to prevent further escalation.
The nomination has triggered an internal rift within the NDF, with alliance members claiming they were neither informed of nor consulted about the decision. The discontent has further deepened divisions within the coalition, with key parties expressing frustration over the lack of transparency in the process.
