Former Minister Harin Fernando has been summoned by the Badulla Police to provide a statement concerning a violation during the recent general elections.
According to Police Spokesman DIG Nihal Thalduwa, Fernando is currently being questioned in connection with an incident that took place on November 11 in Badulla. A tense situation arose when police attempted to halt political campaigning by Harin Fernando’s supporters, who were wearing t-shirts resembling the jersey of international footballer Lionel Messi, featuring the number '10'.
Election Commission officials, alongside the police, intervened, instructing the supporters to remove the t-shirts, which they deemed as an indirect form of electioneering.
