November 21, 2024

A team from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), currently visiting Sri Lanka, will meet with officials from the Ministry of Energy and the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) this morning for discussions.

According to K.T.M. Udayanga Hemapala, Secretary of the Ministry of Power and Energy, the talks will focus on the revision of electricity tariffs and the operational procedures of the relevant institutions. The Ministry plans to incorporate IMF representatives' input in preparing the proposal for the tariff revision.

The revised proposal is expected to be submitted to the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) soon.

On October 24, the CEB had proposed a 6.6% reduction in electricity tariffs to the PUCSL, but the commission later deemed the reduction insufficient and instructed the CEB to submit a new proposal
