The Disaster Management Center (DMC) and the Department of Examinations have launched a joint programme to ensure the uninterrupted conduct of the 2024 G.C.E. Advanced Level (A/L) examination, scheduled from November 25 to December 20.
The initiative comes as the Department of Meteorology predicts the possible development of a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal in the coming week. The programme will minimize disruptions caused by adverse weather or disasters and ensure a conducive environment for students.
DMC Director General Major General (Retired) Udaya Herath led an awareness session at the DMC premises, involving officials from the Department of Examinations and other institutions at both national and district levels.
Emergency response mechanisms have been strengthened, with guidelines issued to relevant departments, including the armed forces and police, to address challenges faced by candidates and examination staff. Emergency hotlines, including the DMC’s 117 and the Examinations Department’s 1911, have been activated to assist students.
The Ministry of Education says that the examination will proceed as planned despite potential weather-related concerns.
