The Bodhi Malu Viharaya, located in the village of Morawitiwala, Hunuwala, Ratnapura, was donated to the Sangha under the leadership of the Anunayaka of the Malwathu Chapter of the Siyam Maha Nikaya, Most Venerable Dimbulkumbure Wimaladhamma Thera. The ceremony was also attended by prominent members of the Maha Sangha, including Most Venerable Ittademaliye Indrasara Thera, Chief Incumbent of Kotuwa Sambuddhaloka Viharaya and former Vice Chancellor of the Buddhist and Pali University; Most Venerable Athapaththukande Ananda Thera, former Deputy Principal of Ananda College; Most Venerable Omalpe Sobitha Thera; and Most Venerable Nanda Thera of Ratnapura.
This significant religious initiative was conducted to commemorate the 20th death anniversary of the late Most Venerable Basnagoda Wimalaratana Nayaka Thera. It was initiated based on a concept by Rohitha Abeygunaratne, the founder of the Odiliya Group, and was described as a distinguished project of both Rohitha and Deepani Abeygunaratne, who have rendered immense service to the Sambuddha Sasana.
The construction of the Viharaya was funded entirely through the personal donations of Rohitha and Deepani Abeygunaratne.
The Odiliya Group can be recognised as a business network that provides shelter for the mind and comfort for the soul.
Highlighting the great merit associated with building temples and monasteries, Most Venerable Dimbulkumbure Wimaladhamma Thera stated that this deed, one of the Eight Great Meritorious Acts, benefits all beings and is highly commendable. He also noted that, just as kings in the past contributed to the Buddhist order, such contributions today are equally praiseworthy.
