Former MP Sujeewa Senasinghe has demanded a public apology from President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and the government, accusing them of "wrongfully dragging him into a court case" involving a luxury vehicle, while also clashing with a journalist outside the courtroom.
The Fort Magistrate’s Court recently ordered the release of Senasinghe’s controversial luxury vehicle, held in court custody, on a bond of Rs. 100 million. The case stems from allegations that the Rs. 100 million vehicle had been illegally assembled. On 11 November, the court instructed the CID to seize the vehicle, submit it for analysis by the Government Analyst’s Department, and provide a report.
Speaking to reporters outside the courthouse, Senasinghe condemned what he called a "political witch hunt."
“This government is targeting us because we practise ethical politics. This is political revenge. They simply won’t leave us alone! It’s disgusting. The President and the relevant minister must take responsibility. If they have any humility, they should apologise,” Senasinghe asserted.
He also criticised the financial toll of the case, alleging, “The CID has likely spent over Rs. 10 million on this matter. What a joke!”
The confrontation escalated when Senasinghe accused a journalist of harbouring bias, claiming their “face darkened” when the case outcome didn’t align with their expectations. “You only have hatred and are trying to take it out on me,” he snapped.
When the journalist attempted to respond, Senasinghe cut them off, saying, “Don’t speak! Just listen to what I’m saying.”
