The Mahaweli Authority said that sluice gates of several reservoirs within the Mahaweli River basin have been opened due to ongoing heavy rainfall.
The affected reservoirs include Bowatenna, Dambulu Oya, Kala Wewa, Rantambe, Loggal Oya, Kotmale, and Victoria. The Authority further said that the sluice gates of the Randenigala Reservoir may also be opened if rainfall increases in the coming hours.
As water from these reservoirs is being released into the Mahaweli River, the Authority has warned residents in low-lying areas to remain vigilant for rising water levels and flooding.
