Manoharan Kajendraroopan, from Inuvil West, Chunnakam, has been released on bail after being remanded for allegedly posting a photo of LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran on Facebook, following Mahaveer Naal.
The decision to grant bail was made by the Jaffna Magistrate's Court. Kajendraroopan was represented by Attorney-at-Law Kanagaratnam Sugash.
The CID arrested four individuals for allegedly promoting and sharing misleading contents related to Mahaveer Naal celebrations, causing public unrest. Three of them have been released on bail by today (4).
The LTTE remains a proscribed organisation in Sri Lanka.
The Police also alleged the suspects circulated old video clips from previous LTTE ‘Mahaviru’ events, misrepresenting them as recent occurrences.
The arrests were made under Section 120 of the Penal Code and Section 27 of the Prevention of Terrorism (Temporary Provisions) Act, No. 48 of 1978, for allegedly inciting public disturbance and promoting activities of a banned organisation through misleading social media posts.
