Trade Minister Wasantha Samarasinghe announced today (4 December) that rice mill owners have agreed to supply 200,000 kilos of rice daily starting immediately.
He said in Parliament that this rice would be distributed to the local market at controlled prices through Lanka Sathosa outlets, as part of measures to ensure a steady supply of essential food during the festive season.
The minister also revealed plans to distribute ten lakh coconuts via Sathosa outlets in suburban areas over the next two weeks. These coconuts will be sold at a controlled price of Rs. 130 each.
