President Maithripala Sirisena has ordered authorities to drop all charges filed against former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka, reinstating him as a General, sources from the President’s Office told Asian Mirror.
Official announcement in this regard is expected to be released soon.
In his election manifesto, President Sirisena promised to reinstate military ranks of the former Army Commander who led the final Eelam war against the LTTE.
Fonseka was stripped of his rank and military honours after he was arrested following the 2010 presidential poll in which he contested President Mahinda Rajapaksa and was indicted on several charges.
Fonseka was the only fur star General to serve in office as the Army Commander of Sri Lanka.
