The move by the Sri Lanka Freedom Party to give nomination to former President Mahinda Rajapaksa has sent ripples across several influential diplomatic missions operating in Colombo.
Immediately after the announcement came on Friday, an Ambassador representing a powerful western nation in Colombo had sought an appointment with President Maithripala Sirisena to discuss about latest developments.
Although the discussion was scheduled for Monday, it was later postponed as the President had to attend a religious event out of Colombo, sources from the Presidential Secretariat told Asian Mirror.
It has now been revealed that several diplomatic missions operating in Colombo are working together with the Sri Lankan Government to "manage" the impact of the war crimes report which is to be presented to the United Nations Human Rights Council session in September.
They had expressed doubts that Rajapaksa's possible re - emergence in politics would affect on going efforts on the human rights and reconciliation front.
