The Fort Magistrate’s Court today (25) ordered the release of a luxury vehicle belonging to former MP Sujeewa Senasinghe on a bond of Rs. 100 million. The vehicle, valued at approximately Rs. 100 million, was previously seized over allegations of illegal assembly.
The development comes after Colombo Fort Magistrate Thanuja Lakmali issued a letter of reprimand last week to the Government Analyst for failing to submit a report on the vehicle. The court had instructed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on 11 November to take custody of the vehicle, present it to the Government Analyst’s Department, and secure a comprehensive report.
During the last week's hearing, President’s Counsel Maithri Gunaratne, representing Senasinghe, argued that the case cited by the CID as being under trial in the Chettikulam Court had already been concluded. He petitioned for the release of the vehicle, currently in CID custody, to his client.
After reviewing the submissions, the Magistrate ruled in favour of releasing the vehicle under a Rs. 100 million bond. This follows a previous order for the case to be recalled today (25) due to delays in receiving the Government Analyst’s report.
