Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe stated that he will take steps to appoint a Parliamentary Select Committee and probe the alleged Treasury bond fraud and several other alleged scams in the Central Bank.

 

Speaking at a specially convened press conference, Wickremesinghe lashed out at the COPE committee, alleging that its investigation was politically motivated. There are many frauds in Central Bank that COPE did not investigate, he said.

 

Ranil W ickremesinghe also said that COPE violated the parliamentary privileges by not summoning him to testify as the subject Minister. He added that he instructed the Central Bank Governor to go for bidding, stopping private placements.
