Minister Mahinda Amaraweera stated that extensive discussions were carried out on UPFA nominations last night under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena.
Speaking to Asian Mirror, he said tht the nominations will be handed over only on July 11, 12 or 13. July 13 is the deadline for the handing over of nominations.
Meanwhile, Pivithuru Hela Urumaya leader Udaya Gammanpila told media that discussions had to be conducted on the candidates of constituent parties of the UPFA.
Meanwhile, there is uncertainty over the nominations given to former President Mahinda Rajapaksa. Former Minister T. B. Ekanayake said on Saturday that Rajapaksa will be contesting from Kurunegala District and nominations will be signed on July 8.
However, President Sirisena have imposed new conditions on Rajapaksa and he is unlikely to contest from Kurunegala.
