Cabinet Spokesman Dr. Rajitha Senaratne created a new twist in the controversy regarding the nomination of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa at a press conference at the Information Department.
Speaking on the issue, Senaratne said that President Maithripala Sirisena has to give the final approval to the nomination lists as the UPFA Chairman.
It was earlier reported that Rajapaksa had signed nominations this morning. National Freedom Front leader Wimal Weerawansa announced this at a press conference at Abhayarama Temple.
However, Senaratne said that it will not be finalized until Sirisena gives his approval. He said that the President has the possibility of refusing to approve it.
